GFHS Battle of the Classes Overview

Scoring: Each class will earn points based on how they place in each category of competition. The class with the most points at the end wins. Point values = (1st/ 2nd/ 3rd/4th) Disqualification = zero points.

Theme: Each class determines a theme by which they decorate their assigned section of the gym and which inspires/informs their class performance (usually a skit or interpretive dance).

This year’s themes are as follows:

Seniors – Harry Potter
Juniors – Avengers
Sophomores – Wizard of Oz
Freshman – Smurfs

Supplies: The general school ASB fund provides a total of five rolls of butcher paper, six bottles of paint, four rolls of duct tape, and four rolls of blue tape and some painting supplies. Classes can purchase additional supplies out of our own ASB fund or supplies can be donated. If you are interested in donating supplies, classes always need the following:

  • Small / medium paint brushes
  • Tape (duct tape and blue painters tape)
  • Non-toxic, washable paints (big bottles), especially white.
  • Supplies needed for any 3D structures we create!
  • Food and snacks!!

Gym Decorations: Decorations will be created using the same theme chosen for Hallway Decorations. No one stays later than 7:00 pm on any night to decorate or work on decorations — except Friday, February 22 when we stop at 10:30 PM. Saturday, February 23rd classes can decorate from 10am-4pm.

3D structures and other “larger than life” decorations are encouraged for BOTC. This is where parent support really comes in handy, especially parents with carpentry skills, access to supplies, and creativity!

Performances: Each class plans and performs a skit, song, or dance which corresponds to their theme on BOTC night. The performance may not exceed 7 minutes; this includes any time needed to set-up or clean-up. Classes exceeding the time limit will be disqualified and will receive no points for this event.
